Increasing your site’s traffic
We all want more visitors, of course, but how do we get them? Post regularly and often Frequently-updated sites will receive more visits than sites whose content doesn’t change, because people will return to your site to see what’s new. Blogs have an advantage over regular sites in this respect, because by nature they are designed to be updated regularly. The more you post, the more content will be available to visitors. It also helps to be on a regular posting schedule. If your readers know you post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, they are more likely to visit because they know new content is available. If they have to guess when new content will appear, they will not visit as often. Understanding what your site statistics mean
It’s all well and good to set up a statistics program on your site, but what do the numbers mean? Visits, Returning Visits, and Unique Visits When a person views a page on your site, that counts as a visit. The visit will continue as long as the person is active on your site. After a period of inactivity, the statistics program considers the visit over. If the same person views another page at that point, it counts as a returning visit—that means the person has visited the site before, but this is a new day. Unique visits count only the individual people who visit your site; they don’t count returning visits. So if I visit your site three times in one week and Bob visits it twice, you will have five total visits, I will have three returning visits, and you will have two unique visitors (Bob and I). A high rate of returning visits means you have a captive audience of people who come back repeatedly to view your site. Page Views and Hits ……
Monitor Your Blog’s Traffic
One your blog is up and running, you will probably want to know how many people are visiting it. Your blogging software may provide some basic statistics right in the control panel. If you want more detailed statistics, you’ll need a third-party solution. If you run your own website, your hosting provider probably has some sort of statistics program, like Awstats installed. If you are on a hosted service such as Blogger or WordPress, don’t worry! Tracking code from programs such as StatCounter and Google Analytics is fairly easy to install on your blog. What program should I use? Both programs offer the same basic features, such as visitor time on your site, pages viewed, a list of sites that referred visitors to you, keywords visitors used in the search engine to find your site, and the most-often viewed pages on your site. StatCounter displays your statistics information in real time, with up-to-the-minute data. The free version shows the last 500 page views to your site.
